Canada's internment era:

2019 Field School

On July 8th, 2019 ten students and ten teachers embarked on a five-day tour of the former sites of the Japanese Canadian internment. This website provides a small glimpse into their journey. Follow along their route, see what they saw, and learn about their experience on the first post-secondary course dedicated to the internment and dispossession in Canada.

Art Miki, former president of the National Association of Japanese Canadians and champion of the 1988 movement for redress, speaks to University of Victoria student Helen Fitzgerald about the importance of teaching this history to Canadians.
